“It really benefits all of our causes,” said Pastor David Bocock.

The flea-market-style thrift store will be held in the basement of Cresskill Congregational United Church of Christ on Union Avenue from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The event is open regularly throughout the year, with items priced to sell. Popular housewares include dishes and vases for only a buck.

Although the church don't offer clothing and furniture, the public is invited to browse through the donations of electronics from those clearing their home storage areas.

Most of the proceeds from the sale go toward the mission and ministry of the congregation. A portion goes towards a special mission effort for local not-for-profit charities.

Shoppers are invited to relax at Corey's Cafe for sandwiches, soups, desserts and refreshments sold after the sale.

There's one more sale on tap this year, on Dec. 11-12.

Community members have contacted Karen Minkler of the church’s office to donate goods. She hopes patrons will continue to do instead of just leaving them at the church.

Cresskill Congregational has assisted those in need for more than a century -- beginning with its Ladies Aid Society, a group that raises money for local charities.

It regularly supports artists and musicians and provides a health and wellness center for the public.
